Here you will find an overview of what a child needs to know at a KS2 level, the KS2 arks over the age range of 7-11 (years 3,4,5, and 6).
The child must be able to:
YEAR 3:
- Count up and down in tenths
- Equivalent fractions
- Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator
- Order fractions
- Utilise all the skills above to answer questions involving all of those aspects
YEAR 4:
- Use diagrams to represent equivalent fractions
- Count in hundredths forwards and backwards
- Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator
- Write decimal equivalents of some fractions
YEAR 5:
- Order fractions with denominators that are multiples of each other
- Write equivalent fractions that are presented visually
- Mixed fractions
- Multiply mixed and proper fractions
- Write decimal numbers as fractions
- Be able to mix between percentages, decimals, and fractions to answer questions
YEAR 6:
- Use common factors to simplify fractions
- Put fractions into sequences of highest to lowest and lowest to highest with fractions larger than 1
- Add and subtract improper and proper fractions
- Multiply fractions
- Divide fractions
- Divide fractions and write the answer in decimal form
